Atlanta Based Corporate God Franchise Buys Coker Creek Village

Rumors of a sale had festered for years, and now finally, the sale of the near 90-acre compound known as Coker Creek Village has been sold to a Spanish-speaking Group. It seems to be a well-funded religious corporation, and Spanish is their preferred language...and they are truly wonderful people.

As seen on their website  https://institutobiblicoeltabernaculo.org -- the buyer's signature is barely readable on the sales contract, for which they wrote a check to Marilu Atchley (who inherited the property from her parents) for $1,050,000 to buy the property -- there were no special covenants or provisions attached to the sale -- which means that they can build or do anything they want with the property.

They held their first 'meet and greet' gathering Saturday 8/29/2020--in which they met a few of the local gentry--for the most part, the "welcome" sign was meant for their Atlanta area visitors who are for the most part, Atlanta area residents. They seemed grateful to be close to nature in their new Church compound, even if they can only visit on certain weekends--it's not known if they will keep the 'Coker Creek Village' name...it was a joyous celebration--which included music, food, and conversation. Their mission statement is shown on their website.

Early Warning of the Corona Virus

On New Year's Day, Blue Dot, a Toronto based medical detectives company founded by infectious disease physician Dr Kamran Khan raised the alarm of what is now known as the "Corona Virus" Covid-19.

Back in December 2019, a Chinese newspaper reported that 27 cases of a mysterious flu like illness had likely originated in a Wuhan market, where live animals are kept in cages and killed while customers watch. VIDEO

Many experts are now investigating to see if this is where the disease made the leap from animals to humans.

Could the Corona Virus Spread like the Black Plague in the 1340's?

The Black Plague was a catastrophic epidemic of a bubonic type plague that killed millions of people in Europe during a period of 5 years, from 1347 to 1352.

"The plague arrived in Europe when 12 trading ships had docked at the Sicilian Port of Messina. People gathered at the docks were met with a horrifying surprise: Most sailors on the ships were dead, and those still alive were gravely ill and covered in black boils that oozed blood and pus. Sicilian authorities hastily ordered the fleet of "death ships" out of the harbor, but it was too late:
Over the next 5 years, the Black Death would kill more than 20 million people in Europe--at the time, this was about one-third of the continents's population." History.com

Doctors battling the Corona Virus in New York City are under extreme pressure, in the likes of which they have never endured. One was quoted as saying--" As doctors we are used to pressure, we are used to seeing a lot of things that normal people don't see, but this is really beyond anything I've seen in my career."

Celebrity 'Con Man' Todd Sweet on Most Wanted List

One of the smoothest talking con men that ever passed through East TN is wanted as of 11/20/2019 for passing worthless checks in Bradley County

Worthy of a Netflix documentary--considered (non-violent) and smarter than most law enforcement officers he has encountered: after walking away from a prison work farm in Michigan (2008) he went on a cross country crime spree.

While in Monroe County he told some area businesses and cops that he was an heir to a fortune and even convinced two Sweetwater PD cops to retire because he had promised them high paying security guard jobs.

After he was brought back to Monroe County in 2008, he was part of the infamous 'fake attorney scandal' while he was housed in the Monroe County jail--in which Sweet, and two former MCSD detectives played an elaborate ruse on a jailed inmate.

Farm Hands Band at Cherohala Skyway Festival

It was a windy and overcast Saturday, but the rain stayed away making the 4th annual October 26, 2019 Cherohala Skyway Heritage Bluegrass Festival a huge success at the Charles Hall Museum fairgrounds.

There were pioneer demonstrations, wagon rides, antique tractors, lots of food vendors, artisans, wood carvers, and several musical acts.
The Farm Hands were recently profiled on Bluegrass Today, but there is still no official word whether guest fiddle player Kimberley Bibb will become a permanent member of the band or an occasional guest artist--let's hope she stays on!

Lessons Learned Since the 911 Attacks

The National Counter Terrorism Center is at the forefront of homeland security to prevent domestic and foreign acts of violence against the United States. Listen to this fact filled conversation (Why the NCTC was created) by the former deputy Director of the CIA and the NCTC Director on what we should be thinking about to address the primary threats.

The NCTC is an information hub: made up of over a 1,000 members who fused together the operational strategy which  led to the capture of Osama Bin Laden, and since then has prevented several terrorist plots. New measures now provide more in-depth sharing of information to provide analysis of critical threats.

Some of the 911 terrorists scouted areas near the tri-state area--in Cherokee County NC, and Polk County TN asking seemingly tourist-type questions during their numerous intelligence gathering trips.
Foreign agents often pose as 'diplomats' -- as was reported by a nearby *resident who spoke with a person driving an SUV with tinted windows (in one of the most desolate no-outlet back-roads around) saying he/or they were from the Atlanta Office of the Russian Consulate and were 'lost', trying to make their way to Knoxville. The group may have been scouting secluded areas without cell phone coverage for secret meetings. No cell-phone reception means their location cannot be 'pinged' by cell phone towers.

* In a later conversation with the elderly gentleman his level of education was obvious: I said,  "you are a former state department guy" to which he said, "how did you know that?" ... it was just a guess...the way he imitated the Russian dialect clearly showed his linguistic skills were above average.

Growth in Tourism Linked to Charles Hall

The continuing growth of tourism in Tellico Plains has Charles Hall written all over it. The area has become an international destination for motorcyclists, bicyclists, and nature lovers.

It began when he appeared before a Congressional House Committee which funded the construction of the the Cherohala Skyway- a multi million dollar road project which connects Robbinsville, North Carolina and Tellico Plains.

The town's public library was another project directly linked to him and other civic leaders--we thank Charles and his family for his legacy and his outstanding leadership as well as the local business community which enriches the quality of life and attracts newcomers to come and visit, enjoy, and often make Tellico Plains their new home. Be sure to stop by the Charles Hall Museum.

Russ 'Barney' Parks Is Out as Tellico Plains Police Chief

Misconduct Allegations Include "Being in a Sexual Relationship with an Informant" -- Scandal Creates A Near Collapse of Law-Enforcement

Update: Former Chief Russell Parks was indicted and booked into the Monroe County Jail on 7/11/2019-- Back in February Parks' daughter had access to his phone, she read revealing text messages, then tells her step-mother who called Mayor Patrick Hawkins, who then called District Attorney Stephen Crump and the TBI began an investigation.

A surprising turn of events since Parks booked numerous people in the same jail where his mugshot was taken.
He was charged with a Class E Felony since the value of the property or services obtained was more than ($500) dollars--the indictment includes missing funds in the amount of ($840) dollars which was allegedly used for sexual favors from a confidential informant.

A couple of weeks after his arrest, he pleaded 'not guilty' at the first court hearing--if found guilty, he may be classified as a 'convicted felon' for the rest of his life.
In the TPPD general information-page it was stated that "Understanding that the laws have a spirit, as well as a letter, thus giving our officers latitude." It's unclear as to whether this meant that Parks felt he could interpret the law to justify his actions.

Eyewitnesses report that upon learning of what had transpired back in February, Parks' wife became enraged, dragged him out of his patrol car in the Police Dept. parking lot, and gave him a 'bare knuckle ass-whoopin'...

Initially, Parks' quick departure raised eyebrows: we now know his actions created a crisis and even the possibility of a lawsuit--it's not uncommon for confidential informants in similar circumstances to sue a police department claiming 'abuse of power'...

A well-placed local resident said back when the scandal first broke, "there are more serious allegations involved and added, he's done as a police officer, and lucky if he doesn't wind up in jail."

Parks' second in command, former TPPD Lt. Jason Crowder is out as well--he has taken a 'rent-a-cop' (security guard) job in a residential community.

If Federal funds or 'instruments used in interstate commerce' (a cell phone or computer), are used in a crime, the FBI usually gets involved--last March, a Virginia State Trooper was found guilty on several federal charges including soliciting sex from an informant, bribery, theft of federal funds, lying to the FBI, and destroying evidence. More from WVVA.

This is Tellico Plains' second police chief scandal: in 2012 there was a state comptroller investigation on former police chief Bill Isbell, a 'darling' of the private Coker Creek facebook users group: Where Did The Money Go?

The Tellico Plains city council advertised for a 'new police chief' and within a few days, four applied for the job. The unanimous choice was to get back former chief of police Jeb Brown in the chief's position, he was the clear favorite...many see it as step in the right direction for the city moving forward, one city local resident said-- "it's like Sheriff Taylor is back in town."

Chief Brown was recently asked, did Parks pass on any pertinent information about mass casualty threats with a deadly weapon by a recent move/in drifter who is a frequent flea market vendor? Brown said no he wasn't informed, and said, " Parks had been charmed and had become friends with the guy." ...a clear lapse of judgement, considering the guy had initially bragged that he owned a 'Thompson' sub-machine gun... Information by a credible witness in the Tellico Plains Flea Market portrays the drifter as a malcontent and prone to violence...This is the sort of person Parks 'cozied' up to?

We Buy Land and Homes-Scam Alert

We Buy Land and Homes posters have recently sprung up in the south end of the county--here's what to keep in mind to avoid getting ripped off or worse. In the video below, a lien or 'caveat' against property is shown to be like an expensive 'virus' which must be removed before a sale to a 'real' buyer can be finalized.
The 'seller' failed to read a 'subject-to' clause in the contract--watch the video.

  • An average individual in desperate need of cash may become a target of recent move-in smooth talking 'predators'... who are thrilled to profit from anyone's 'down and out' financial situation.
  •  'Equity Skimming' is one of the most common ways used to rip you off -- it starts by the seller transferring the deed to the 'buyer'.
  • At times, all the victim needs is a 'short term' loan leaving the original mortgage intact--after you receive a quick 'payment'...you may be notified to make payments to the alleged 'buyer' instead of the mortgage company you were formerly making payments to--the buyer who now has the deed to the property, may rent out the property instead of moving in--and now is getting money from you and the renter.
  • The equity in your home can now be used to get 'home equity' loans or other forms of financing--or they can re-sell the property without paying off the outstanding mortgage.
  • The scammer ultimately stops making payments on the mortgage, and allows the property to go into foreclosure since they never assumed liability for the mortgage.
  • Another version of the scam is the buyer makes a verbal offer for your property and you accept it--a few days later you get a formal written contract--because you believe it is the same offer you agreed to, you simply sign on the dotted line without reading the 'fine print'--eventually you discover that the written contract is not the same as the verbal agreement--now you are entangled in a legal battle for months or years.
  • There are several other ways 'fly by night' scammers use to cheat victims--a scammer in 2008 posed as an heir to a fortune and even convinced some area cops to 'retire' because he had promised them high paying security guard jobs--as it turned out, the 'smooth talking' drifter was a prison escapee from Michigan...who had used several 'promise to purchase' land agreements during a cross-country escapade, until he was finally captured in Arizona.

Sheriff Tommy Jones' 4 Year Report Card

Almost 4 years ago to the day, Sheriff Tommy Jones started in a life-changing meteoric rise: On 12/9/2014 he was appointed as interim Sheriff by the County Commissioners.

What seemed like at first, a 'wet behind the ears'
unknown twenty something, has made dramatic improvements to Monroe County Sheriff's Dept. that his critics never expected--since then, he has won two elections, and if he stays the course, may be unbeatable and will likely   *keep his job until he decides to retire, unless he really screws up--See "2022 Alijah Kensinger Missing Child Alert." It turned into a 19 hour search for a six year old that was sitting under a tree less than a mile behind the grandmother's house.

For the most part, Sheriff Jones has been able to side-step controversy--the first notable incident was brought to the public's attention by Eddie Manning, a deputy he had justly fired for planting evidence in 2015 and/or bringing contraband into the MCSD jail--In 2014, Manning was campaigning "in uniform" for Sheriff Bill Bivens in the Coker Creek Williams Market--before leaving the store I (MS) said  "Randy White is going to Win" ...(which he did)--soon after driving off, I saw Manning's patrol SUV in my rear view mirror 'inches from my back bumper' the entire two miles right up to my driveway...it was clearly an intimidation ploy. Manning was one 3 deputies that sued after getting fired and was the only one that was not awarded any monetary compensation.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The most unusual comment in the press briefing (shown in video) is "We are not in the storage business." ...that's one of the most absurd comments you will ever hear from the head of a law enforcement agence...WATE News reported that guns from the evidence room (see video below) had been sold to a business owner formerly associated with the Tellico plains Police during the Bill Isbell and Don Charest tenure, in which several seized guns had disappeared and funds from police fund-raisers were not being deposited in city bank accounts.

An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury (shown page 1 of 4), found systemic violations of record-keeping--a major blunder by association, considering that the store had almost become a branch office of the sheriff's dept.
The Sheriff's Dept. is no longer associated with Don Charest or any of his former cronies.
"We are Judged by the Company We Keep"

After being appointed interim Sheriff by county commissioners on 12/9/2014, Jones was all for Randy White staying on as sheriff after the technicalities could be worked out--however, the 'lust for power' changed the story line: Jones later 'fired' Randy White who he had named as his chief deputy.

Randy White has no one to blame but himself!... It turned into a classic case of 'you snooze you loose'.
Randy lacked the POST Commission requirements in 2014 by just a few days, and in 2018, had become eligible to be sheriff, however, Tommy Jones wouldn't let go...who can blame him?, it's pretty cool to be sheriff--the whole thing has elements of trust, betrayal, greed, and the makings of an A&E Investigation Discovery episode.

"Badge Bunnies" Target Cops and Firefighters

One of the most important duties of a training officer is to remind new recruits that engaging in certain activities can cost them their careers.

Former Tellico Plains Police Chief Arlie French (R.I.P) was clear in his warning: 'aberrant behavior can get your badge.'
He actually said "your badge can get you P_ _ _ _ but P_ _ _ _ can get your badge."

The badge bunny waitress in this picture caused a Texas trooper to get fired, after letting her sit on the patrol car while holding his assault rifle.

A Bronx fire station was known as "Animal House" because of its wild sex parties--the regular escapades caused two members to get suspended and fourteen others to get 're-assigned' after a group party with a known 'fireman groupie.'
The woman initially told police she had been raped, but later admitted to having consensual sex with four firefighters...she also admitted to having sex with 200 to 300 firefighters since 9/11, and that she had herpes, and suffered from bi-polar disorder.

If you think this will never happen to you, think again--A 'cop groupie' in Chicago described her reasons for playful encounters with cops, she said:
  • All the cops were married.
  • The 'power' that cops had was a 'turn on' and she believed that the association could buy her favors.
  • She also had a strange fascination with guns as 'sex objects.'
  • New encounters often occurred at a public park frequented by cops.

Attempt to Destroy Judge Kavanaugh Fails

False accusations are nothing new: since the beginning of time, people have been incarcerated and at times, put to death by being falsely accused.

After the preliminary confirmation vote on Friday, Senator Susan Collins stood up and explained why she was voting in favor of the Judge Kavanaugh nomination: rule of law, presumption of innocence, and no credible supporting evidence in the outlandish allegations made by Blasey-Ford. After a 50 to 48 vote in favor of now Justice Brett Kavanaugh,
he was sworn in as the 114th US Supreme Court Justice.

Rule of law and due process is alive and well in Monroe County--professional law enforcement guidelines have at times, exposed false allegations by 911 callers. New guidelines are a stark contrast to numerous mysterious incidents and shoddy investigations during the previous administration--see "Equal Opportunity Incompetency"

The sheriff's incident reports now go through a 'chain of command' review to weed out false claims, bias, and possible field-officer misconduct.

A brief description of 2 recent incident reports described below:

A woman accused her male companion of improperly touching her daughter, the male denied the accusation. During questioning by the responding officer, the female admitted to using meth earlier in the day, and produced two baggies containing meth, needles, and other illegal drugs. After transporting the female's two daughter to the hospital, a medical evaluation concluded there was no abuse detected.

During a property line dispute, a recent-move in from Florida walked up to his neighbor and made threats of bodily injury--then called 911 to report he had been 'assaulted.'
Video evidence showed what really happened, and he was charged with simple assault.
A further investigation showed the false accuser had engaged in similar activities in Florida, and had resigned from his position as a school maintenance supervisor after being accused of theft.

Former Sheriff Bill Bivens' 3rd Strike Out

Sheriff Bill Bivens

Part history and perhaps a political obituary: remembered as a life-long public servant

Although he said in 2016 he was out of politics forever, in 2018 he tried for the third, and perhaps the last time to get back in the Sheriff's seat.

To anyone that has met him, he is like-able and has a generational history in Monroe County--his father was a former MCSD Sheriff--Bill also served as a county commissioner. After serving as Tellico Plains Police Chief, he decided to run against the 3 term sheriff Doug Watson in 2006, and he won.

Complaints against Watson had escalated to the point that even his supporters felt it was time for a change--two incidents, one in Madisonville and the other in *Coker Creek swung the balance in Bivens' favor--well-connected actors, in criminology known as the 'criminal elite', were getting away with a 'slap in the hand'...county wide corruption affected every aspect of society, and led to the change of the guard 2006-2014 Bivens' tenure as Sheriff.
There's no doubt, Bill will be remembered as a good man, who tried to make a positive difference in Monroe County.

There is more detail in the Coker Creek incident, but the one in Madisonville had similar components.

*March of 2006, a mid-twenties white male, son of a 'crony' of then sheriff Watson rolls his truck off the bank on Hwy 68 near what at the time was, the  'Davis Store'--flees the scene and runs home to hide-out...during the next hour, the cops try to flush the suspect out and arrest him. It escalates to the suspect shooting at a combined force of 4 police agencies (THP, MCSD, TPPD, even a cruiser from Vonore PD showed up and a WATE news crew.)

Watson forbids the officers to shoot back, even though the officers said some of the shots 'whizzed by close to their heads'. The suspect finally passes out/faints, but was never injured and gets taken into custody by Sgt. Mike Morgan.

It was the only time that a crew from Knoxville based WATE-TV showed up during an active crime scene in Coker Creek...
the shooter was only charged with 'reckless endangerment' and received a $100 fine from Judge Reed Dixon...(that's less than the average speeding ticket.)

MCSD Deputies Memorial Day Manhunt

While you were enjoying your holiday weekend barbecue on Memorial Day 2018, an alert deputy spotted a fugitive who was wanted on a VOP (violation of probation) from a drug related arrest.

The chase started near Ball Play/Belltown road heading towards Tellico Plains--for a short time, there was a good visual on the suspect's truck, then after about 20 minutes the getaway vehicle was spotted abandoned in the woods.

According to an employee at the health dept, the Belltown/Ball Play road community has been one of the worst areas in the county involving drug related incidents.

You can thank the efforts of the deputies in sheriff's dept. and the county's city police depts. who continue to wage war on the drug epidemic.

Brian "Wormy" Hodge: the Most Powerful Man in Monroe County?

The law of un-intended consequences...could he 'swing' the election if he decides to "talk" to authorities?

... Just when it was getting down to the wire in the start of the 2018 Sheriff's election, the feds have announced they now have even more evidence that ties "Wormy" Hodge to the 2014 vote buying case.

Update: Tommy Jones wins the Republican primary sheriff's race: It may be the first time that a "Jim Comey" type strategy has had such an impact on an election since 2016--Did U.S. District Attorney Douglas Overbey violate DOJ guidelines?...
The traditional Justice Department protocol is to avoid taking investigative action in the run-up to an election that could affect it's outcome.

Soon after the press release, support for Randy White dwindled throughout the county.

U.S. District Attorney Douglas Overbey has announced they now have DNA on an envelope that was used for absentee voting--a saliva sample shows an acceptable probability that it was Hodge's DNA smeared on the envelope.

Federal authorities have a 'trump card' (no pun intended) in their arsenal during investigations which local authorities don't have: it is known as 18 U.S.C. 1001...False Statements to a Federal Investigator--in other words, lying during questioning is a crime, and if they can prove you lied--it's a felony. This is how Martha Stewart was snared during her insider trading trial--there wasn't enough to convict her for insider trading, but they could show that she lied during questioning, and she served 5 months (of a 12 month) sentence in federal prison.

Travis Jones Resigns! ...Leaves Law-Enforcement for Secure State Job

Was Jones knowingly violating the law?...what started as a relaxed and unassuming interview, will have far-reaching implications on his career

It's been close to a year that Travis Jones (perhaps unwittingly), admitted to MSNBC's Keith Morrison what has been 'standard practice' at the Monroe County Sheriff's Office... A total disregard for the legal steps required to present evidence in court--his admission could open the floodgates for possible re-trials in cases where a defendant's civil rights, (especially those not having a good attorney at the time), may claim their civil rights were violated. The failure of the sheriff's dept. to properly train officers, and the lack of oversight when misconduct occurred, made national headlines in the Dawson case.

Can the state of Tennessee "teach an old dog new tricks?" Even if it was possible, the "Fruit of the Poisonous Tree" doctrine may hang like a storm cloud, and raise reasonable doubt in any future investigations or court testimony involving former MCSD Captain Travis Jones.

Call it an October surprise or however you wish to characterize it; but, it was a 'head-turner' to learn that Jones was 'abandoning ship' as head of MCSD detectives to work as a 'fire investigator' with the Tennessee Department of Commerce and Insurance--what led to his departure and more importantly, what does he know about fire investigation?

A good fire investigator should have a 'scientific or chemical' background--Dr. Gerald Hurst earned his PhD in chemistry from Cambridge, he said that "fire investigation in general is the 'swamp of forensic science'-in fact, many forensic scientists refuse to recognize arson investigation as a 'sub-field' of forensic science." Many innocent people are sitting in prison, because of inaccurate conclusions drawn from faulty science.

Senior members of local police departments are often times recruited and move up to the TBI, FBI, and other law enforcement agencies--not in this case--why? we can only guess at all the possibilities...

Prior to 2014, MCSD had a history of bungling death investigations, or conducting no death investigations whatsoever in cases where the evidence of possible criminal conduct was crystal clear.

Sheriff Watson Arrested on 12 Felony Charges

Judge Don Ash is picked to preside: the same judge that presided over the Bill Bivens vs Randy White lawsuit in Monroe County

**Bradley County: Steve Lawson unseats incumbent Eric Watson on May 1st, 2018--with no democrat in the race, Lawson will take office September 1st, 2018**
For 8 1/2 months Eric blamed others (The TBI, Chattanooga Times Free Press, county commissioners, grand juries), now he can get on with his true calling in life as "used car salesman."

Prosecutor Jimmy Dunn dropped all felony charges against Watson on 1/11/2018, before the case was even heard in court--even though after 6 months of appeals, Judge Don Ash had ruled on 12/21/2017 the case to go to trial (the indictment originally had 6 felony offenses and later had 12 in total)...Dunn admitted that Watson had violated the law, but claimed he had paid the taxes on the vehicle titles mentioned in the indictment--however, that was not part of the case--the indictment charged "fraud and forgery."

In a press conference the day after prosecutor Dunn dropped all 12 felony charges, Watson blamed others (and rumors?) for the 2 year investigation, and didn't offer to answer questions from reporters--this incident and how he handled it, will forever haunt his career --- he will now go before the 'court of public opinion.'

12/21/2017 Judge Don Ash refused to dismiss charges, case to go to trial--Watson's attorney had filed a motion to dismiss (motion DENIED), the approach was that since the titles in the vehicles that Watson had admitted to 'forging' were not Tennessee titles, the law didn't apply.

The arrest of a county sheriff is a rare event--it's been almost 10 years since former Hamilton County Sheriff Billy Long was arrested by the FBI and convicted on money laundering, extortion, and other charges. Long was released from federal prison in 2016, but will serve a monitored 'house arrest' for another 5 years.

After a year long investigation by the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, a grand jury indicted Watson on 6 felony counts--after getting his prints and mugshot taken, he posted a 30k dollar bond and was released from custody back in July 2017.

Sheriff Tommy Jones' Inner Circle, Don Charest

A Senior member of the MCSD Reserve Officer Program has "packed up, and moved out of town"

It couldn't have come at a worse time for Sheriff Tommy Jones. A person who could have shed light on the inner workings of what a reserve officer actually does, has within two months, sold his property and moved out of Monroe County.

* Update 2018: Don Charest is no longer affiliated with the MCSD...the sheriff's dept is staffed with honorable men and women: moving forward in a new direction...

An inside source revealed that Don Charest sold his Coker Creek homestead within a week of being on the market. A county land transfer record shows that it was priced low enough for a "quick sale."...

Charest had formerly been in the Tellico Plains Police Reserve under a cloud of controversy, along with former chief Bill Isbell. Former Tellico Plains Mayor Roger Powers felt that both Isbell and Charest lacked transparency and honesty, and he "booted them out." An investigation by the Tennessee Comptroller of the Treasury revealed missing or un-accounted money from fundraisers and missing guns...

Charest has returned from time to time to manage or liquidate his assets at the Madisonville SDS gun store, which he co-owns with Ray Kough. During his visits back to Monroe County, he has stayed in an 'out-of-the-way' cabin in Coker Creek, driving a vehicle not formerly associated with him...

The SDS gun store operators were "giddy with excitement" after Jones was appointed interim Sheriff on 12/9/2014. They even made a webpage for him on their website claiming "they finally had someone they could work with."

My Career Has Been Ruined For "No Reason"

Former MCSD Captain Kenny Hope blamed 'others' for his downfall; he was unable to handle the pressure of being under investigation

On a 'good day' former Captain Kenny Hope performed well, and was like-able. His downfall began during the Jim Miller homicide investigation and the comments that credible witnesses in the community allegedly heard him say--to be clear, it was decided by former DA Bebb that Hope had nothing to do with the Jim Miller murder; but, his comments to the media didn't jive with what other long-time locals knew...he claimed his only contact with Jim Miller was during a traffic stop. This was claim was refuted in court by several witnesses including TBI agent Barry Brakebill.
Brenda Stakely said she had heard Kenny Hope say "he had killed Jim Miller, put him in the trunk, and burned him like the pig he was." Another witness (Jim Plemons), testified that he heard Kenny Hope say how much "he hated Jim Miller and (former sheriff) Doug Watson."

Kenny Hope tried to clear his name by way of comments to the media--'bad mistake'--an important lesson missed by some current MCSD officials in 2017.

Kenny Hope's final 'swan song' remark after being cleared as a murder suspect, correctly described his conduct.

Using NO REASON when he made public statements, which may at a later time appear as false or misleading.

NO REASON for 'breaking rank'-- when he called the news media after being cleared as a suspect to say, " MY CAREER HAS BEEN RUINED FOR NO REASON."

NO REASON for showing a lack of inter-agency cooperation and sensitivity for the family of the victim, by making un-authorized statements to the media while he was still employed by the Monroe County Sheriff's Dept.

Oddly enough, Kenny Hope's phone voicemail greeting started with, "You have the right to remain Silent."....if had he used his own advice before and after being cleared as a Suspect....he might still be a Law Enforcement Officer.

3 weeks after he was cleared as a suspect, while still employed by the Monroe County Sheriff's Dept., Hope was allegedly found by Madisonville P.D. outside a woman's home holding a club and smelling of liquor.

This is a reminder that --
"Suspects are presumed to be Innocent"....."Suspects are not presumed to be Intelligent."

Hidden Forest Service Campground: A Crime Haven with a View

Bromen's SUV used in getaway

The fallout from the "Missing Minnesota girl" unfolds

it's now known that Jon Bromen, the "wanted criminal" who kept Claire Cooney and her mother for 10 days in an "out of the way" forest service campground in Monroe County, was caught because of a "dead battery" which forced him to leave his campsite and walk down Hwy 68 seeking help.

Why did the trio go un-noticed for a week and a half by Forest Service Law Enforcement? The District USFS ranger would have noticed "something wasn't right" if he had taken the time to drive in one of the secluded campground areas just off Joe Brown Rd. The same USFS campground area that a drifter from Alabama made his base of operations for several weeks.

A man, woman, and child living in their vehicle in one of the coldest weeks of the year: you can bet would have raised a "red flag" for experienced USFS Agent Shawn Reece--who likely would have immediately gotten on the radio and called Monroe County Sheriff Dispatch for a 10-29 check on the vehicle and it's occupants. That's "IF" he had driven in the secluded campground areas--which have become less and less user-friendly over the past few years; it's almost as if they hope that the  large pot-holes on the road, the garbage, and lack of mowing will discourage use of this facility.

If not for Scott Williams, who recognized the wandering Minnesotans on Hwy 68--the case may have had a sad outcome. See how Bromen was captured HERE

Missing girl found near Coker Creek Welcome Center

Claire Cooney kept hidden for a week in a Forest Service campground behind the Coker Creek Welcome Center

Brian Cooney hadn't seen his daughter Claire for over a month. On Sunday her non-custodial mother, along with her "wanted fugitive" traveling companion, and 6 yr. old Claire were spotted walking on Hwy 68 by an alert store owner. It's now presumed they were walking because there was a "BOLO" (be on the lookout) for their vehicle bearing a Minnesota license plate, or had car trouble with their vehicle--regardless, it's likely they were on a typical Sunday walk, and had planned to return to their campsite.

The secluded area where the trio was camping for several days has long been a favorite spot for drifters and gold-panners--and, has become a breeding ground for crime and illegal activities-- Claire was kept there for a week without Forest Service Agent Shawn Reece being aware that a "wanted fugitive," Claire, and her mother were in his jurisdiction.
About 3 years ago, a drifter from Alabama made the same secluded campground area near the Welcome Center his base of operations, see Peeping Tom Arrested.

The trio likely (did) visit-as told by P.I. Renee Brewer, the Coker Creek Welcome Center, but did not raise any suspicion--this facility, founded by Don Charest  (made up of almost 100% recent Northern move-ins), welcomes newcomers--especially couples with a school age child... Did the staff ignore the missing child posters?...In 2005, during time of the disappearance/search for Franny Graham, who lived just across the road, no missing person's posters were seen in or around the Welcome Center--in fact, the newly hired contract facility postal worker at the time (Barbara Coleman), said she wasn't told about Franny's disappearance, even 6 months after she started...How could this be?...Well you see, bad publicity is "bad for tourism and land sales."

While the trio traveled through middle TN, they attracted the attention of an alert store owner,--when they arrived in Monroe county, another alert store owner from (Williams Mountain Market) recognized the group from a missing person flyer.
Claire's natural blond hair had been dyed black, and with make-up, looked older

Making Monroe County 'Safe Again', MCSD on Dateline NBC

A 'dumb mistake' by the accused helps prosecutors close the Bob McClancy Murder

Being profiled on a Dateline NBC episode, especially a 2-hour episode was a head-turner...over the past decade, suspicious deaths were common in Monroe County TN...
At times, it seemed like MSNBC reporter Keith Morrison was conducting a "deposition" on Det. Travis Jones, who was clearly uncomfortable with some of the questions. Lack of training, and at times, a disregard for standard 'law enforcement guidelines', compromised several death investigations.

The McClancy murder was solved, mainly because of 'a dumb mistake' by the accused'--described in the outline below, and Mclancy's stepson alerting the authorities of what he had discovered in a computer given to him by Martha Ann... (the case had been dismissed in 2006 before it went to trial, because of police mishandling of the evidence).

If you watched the Dateline episode, you may notice striking similarities in the suspicious death of Charlie Young--in a 45 minute narrative, Charlie's son describes what he has uncovered about his father's death--watch Marvin Young Victim of Corruption.

Among the major players in the Secrets in the Smoky Mountains episode were Attorney Matthew Rogers, Former MCSD Captain Travis Jones, VA investigator Nate Landkammer, and from the 10th Judicial District Prosecutor's Office-Cindy Schemel and Mac McCoin.

A brief outline of the Dateline 'Secrets in the Smoky Mountains'

  • in 2006, Capt. Jones becomes suspicious that he has a 'staged death investigation' and not an apparent suicide.
  • Pictures found on a digital camera show several poses of the victim, as if the perpetrator was deciding which photo would best serve to disguise his crime.
  • The initial indictment of 'negligent homicide' was dismissed in court because Captain Jones failed to get a warrant for the camera.
  • Martha Ann and Chuck Kaczmarczyk were preparing to lessen their storage items, so they could travel the world--Now comes the biggest mistake of their criminal enterprise: Martha Ann gives her adopted son Sean a desktop computer, which had the same incriminating pictures on a file folder--(several posed pictures of Bob McClancy, before his alleged 'suicide' was reported on a 911 call back in 2006).
  • Sean sees the pictures and calls Martha...she quickly realizes how damaging the pictures could be and tells Sean: "For God's sakes, Delete those Pictures." ...Sean becomes suspicious that his dad's death was not a suicide.
  • Sean now has the pictures, and they are legally his, because Martha Ann gave him the computer.
  • The prosecutor's office re-opens the case--although prosecutors generally steer clear from cases which have been dismissed--the fact that the victim was a retired cop from Florida, may have played a significant role in re-opening the investigation. And, the Feds were involved... building a case of Social Security Fraud and other charges. It would have been terrible 'PR' for the DA's Office to stand-by and 'do nothing'...
  •  In 2016, Chuck and Martha Ann received lengthy prison sentences.

Officer Shoots Suspect During Burglary at His Home

Prayer is the Best Way to meet the Lord... but, Trespassing and Stealing is Faster

An early morning shooting of a burglary suspect on 12/9/2016, has sent one man to the morgue.

Although the incident is still under investigation, only the name of the alleged suspect has been revealed. Regardless of the circumstances, any death is tragic to friends and relatives of the decedent.
However, those who know the deputy and heard his account of what took place believe he acted in self-defense, and that his character is above reproach.

Almost a Tragedy: Gas Station Roof Collapse Linked to Incompetence and Cost-Cutting

Update 12/14/2016: the 'debris' of the roof canopy collapse was removed and business is back to normal.

The "culprit" behind the original installation of the gas pumps and roof canopy has been identified as Danny Baker of Baker Oil Company in Lenoir City, TN--during a phone interview, they admitted to hiring and paying a sub-contractor to do  the work.

The cause of many construction disasters is often negligence, incompetence, and the total disregard for public safety... in this mishap there are two obvious clues: In nearby Athens TN where EF-2 winds wreaked havoc, many buildings next to or near gas pumps were destroyed, but none of the gas station canopies collapsed--in this roof collapse, there is no visible damage to the building--only the single post holding the canopy above the gas pumps failed.
Pastor Williams recently bought the business from Gary Davis, who owned the building since it was built back in 2001.
The heavy steel-frame canopy was attached by a single steel post, which sheared off it's ground level tack-weld mount--on 11/28/2016.

Moscow on the Nantahala

Foreign agents could be, and most likely have been scouting rural routes to and from large urban areas. According to the National Counterintelligence and Security Center, there are over 100 Russian spies operating in the U.S.

The road shown in the video is not just secluded, it's 'beyond secluded'--some residents who have lived in the area over 20 years have never driven past the 'no outlet' sign.

An elderly gentleman who lives about ten miles from the nearest paved road said foreign diplomats were recently spotted wandering in the area, supposedly looking for a short-cut through the woods...go figure.

When you consider that over half of all foreign diplomats also serve as 'intelligence gatherers' or 'spies', it's a reasonable cause for concern.
The 'no outlet' sign at the entrance of this rural road is merely to discourage traffic: there are two (logging trail) routes available to continue back to urban areas--used mainly by hikers and off-road vehicles.

The operators the local resident refers to that he encountered, may have had prior mapping and knowledge of the area, and understood the value of a secluded area for meetings, dead-drops, and cell-phone towers' inability to 'ping' the location of cell phones...if one assumes that, oh!...no way it's not possible--that's exactly the mindset that potential foreign adversaries would like you to have.

Former MCSD deputy Eddie "hands" Manning fails to sway jurors

Former MCSD's "Predator with a Badge" was "fired" by the new Administration, caught on video planting evidence

U.S.Federal Court 9/23/2016--jury rules in favor of 2 former MCSD deputies who were fired by the new administration.

In the federal job discrimination lawsuit filed last year (2015), by three former MCSD deputies, Manning was the only one who received "0" compensation--Doug Brannon was awarded 50K, and "Crowbar" Miller just under 7K.

Doug Brannon, along with his former partner James Patrick Henry, made national headlines in the Dawson vs Monroe County Sheriff lawsuit--see the U.S. District Court in Knoxville Case 3:13cv00240--Judge James Curwood Witt had earlier described their actions as "egregious, illegal, and abhorrent."

The last *contact I had with former deputy Manning was in mid-summer 2014, during a visit to the Coker Creek Davis Store, (now called Williams Mountain Market).
After pumping gas and entering the store, I noticed a lively round-table discussion in the dining area--it centered around who was going to win the 2014 Sheriff's race, Randy White or incumbent Sheriff Bill Bivens.

My prediction, which was meant to be clearly heard, was that "Randy White was going to Win." There was a MCSD Sheriff's deputy present who heard this--the nameplate on his shirt was,  E Manning.

Soon after getting back on the road,  the Sheriff's Dept. SUV which had been parked outside the store was now just inches from the rear of my vehicle. For the next 4 miles, the SUV kept "riding" my rear bumper.  The "slow chase" continued until I turned into my driveway.  Needless to say, this is a tactic which is often used as a "road rage" ploy, and can lead to a serious and dangerous situation.

* Former chief deputy Bryan Graves had been advised of at least one other similar incident. A call placed to Graves on 8/26/2013 alerted him to an incident which had a carbon-copy type M.O. (modus operandi)--which started in Tellico Plains, and lasted for 8 miles.

If "hands" Manning would chase a motorist for merely exercising their first amendment right of  (free-speech, voicing an opinion), and was fired in-part for planting evidence,  it's possible that he was 'at times' acting in violation under "color of law" while employed by the MCSD.
Section 242 of Title 18 makes it a crime for a person acting under color of law to willfully deprive a person of a right or privilege protected by the Constitution or laws of the United States.

The new Jones/White administration should take a firm stand against police officer misconduct--posing as fake attorneys, planting evidence,  selling schedule  class III narcotics,  use of a firearm during the commission of a felony,  civil rights violations,  and other by-gone era tactics should be strictly prohibited.
